Leaside United Church virtual choir of Morning Hymn

I originally wrote Morning Hymn for the Summer Institute of Church Music at the request of Christopher Dawes to honour Patricia Wright, and was so very fortunate to work with Pat’s friend and collaborator, poet Patricia Orr, on the text. The piece became mildly notorious as the meeting of the three Pats! My heartfelt thanks to Matthew Boutda and the choir of Leaside United Church for deciding to make a virtual choir of Morning Hymn to share with your congregation this week, and for your truly uplifting singing. Sing on!

Two pieces published by Cypress Choral Music

Two more compositions are now out with Cypress Choral Music!

My contemporary Christmas carol on text by Lucy Maud Montgomery is now available in a newly-revised edition, titled In Slumber Deep (formerly known as The Christmas Night).

Also, my setting of At Thy Voice by Charles G.D. Roberts – a serene and thoughtful text suitable for concert or sacred settings.

Neither of these are completely new, but have been thoroughly edited for these newly published editions. I’ve touched up voice leading and typesetting. Take a look and listen at Cypress.

St. Michael’s Choir School premieres The Days Gone By

In the summer of 2019, the graduating class of St. Michael’s Choir School approached me about writing a piece for them. These students and singers commissioned, prepared, conducted, and performed the piece completely on their own initiative for a Remembrance Day service in November 2019. It was so inspiring to see their dedication and leadership on making this come to life, and I’m glad to be able to share it here.
